2 Ansaar Gazwatul Hind militants killed in Balhama encounter

The government forces killed two militants in a heavy barrage of mortar fire on a house the militants had taken shelter in in Balhama, some ten miles away from Srinagar on Friday. The militants belonged to the AnsaarGhazwat-ul-Hind outfit. Two houses were also destroyed in the assault by the forces.
Police said that the two militants of Ansaar had taken refuge in the house of a poet, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat alias MadhoshBalhama, after a brief shoot-out near Arsh Institute in which a personal security officer (PSO) of a BJP leader sustained minor injury on Thursday afternoon.
According to villagers, the police, army and the CRPF had sealed the entire area to kill the militants. Clashes were also witnessed in the nearby Zaffran Colony area where forces had resorted to aerial firing. Locals of Balhama alleged that forces used hundreds of mortar shells to destroy the house where militants were holed-up. “The encounter started at around 2 pm in the afternoon and by 11 pm in the evening it was over,” said a resident of Balhama. “By 2 pm, forces had retrieved the bodies of both the slain militants.”
A police official said that two militants were killed in an overnight encounter at Balhama. “They were identified as OwaisNabi of NowdalTral and Shabir Ahmad of AghanziporaAwantipora,” he said.
As per police records they had joined militancy last year in the month of March and August respectively. “The bodies have been handed over to their legal heirs for last rites,” he said.
