Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed it has arrested two inter-state drug peddlers from Nagrota and Banihal areas of the region and seized from their possession over 1400 kilograms of poppy straw.
A police spokesman said that a random nakawas placed at Nagrota area on Jammu-Srinagar highway by component police Jammu in association with a police party of police station Nagrota this evening.
At naka, a truck (JK03B-9258) was signaled for checking. Seeing police, the driver of the vehicle, tried to flee, but he was overpowered at a distance by the police party. During search of the truck, 600 kilograms of poppy straw like substance was recovered by the police,” he said.
The police spokesman further said that the accused, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, has been arrested and booked in case FIR number 300/2018 under section 8/15 of the NDPS Act registered at police station Nagrota.The arrest and seizure was made by SHO Nagrota, Deepak Pathania.
Meanwhile, in another operation against the narcotics, Banihal police signaled an apple laden truck (HR55N-1368) at Railway crossing, Banihal.During search of the vehicle, 865 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered by the police.
Police have arrested the accused, also a resident of Hoshiarpur, Punjab and booked him in case FIR number 192/2018 under relevant sections of the law at police station Banihal.The arrest and seizure was made by SHO Banihal, Aijaz Ahmed Wani.
