Three Amarnath pilgrims, including a woman, died and four others sustained injuries after a landslide triggered by heavy rains hit them near Baltal in Ganderbal district on Tuesday evening.
Senior superintendent of police Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmed Lone told that pilgrims were hit by a landslide between Brarimarg and Railpathri, nearly 7 kms from the cave shrine.
He said the two deceased pilgrims were identified as Jyoti Sharma, 35, wife of Binal Sharma of New Delhi and Ashok Mahtu, 55, son of Kharo Mahtu of Patna Bihar. “The identity of the third deceased pilgrim is being ascertained,” he added.
“ Police and other security forces and rescue agencies are on the job and injured are being treated,” the SSP said, adding that the bodies were brought to the base camp hospital and the injured are being treated.
Meanwhile, PTI reported that five people, including four men and a woman — were killed, in the landslide while three others were injured.
