Three militants were killed after soldiers intercepted a group trying to infiltrate into Kashmir from across the Line of Control in Machil area, a Srinagar-based spokesman of the army said Wednesday. The incident happened during the intervening night June 5 and 6.
“Militants while trying to take advantage of thick forest and darkness tried to infiltrate, however, alert troops foiled there attempt and after brief gunfight, killed three heavily armed militants,” said Rajesh Kalia, the military spokesman.
He said that militants were challenged when spotted and they fired towards the soldiers leading to a gun battle and subsequent deaths.
Kalia said the areas was being searched and “efforts are on to neutralise other militants if found in the area.”
This was the second major infiltration bid in the same sector during the last two weeks, army said.
On May 26, army said five militants were killed while they were trying to infiltrate along the LoC in Tanghdar sector.
