72nd ‘Accession Day’: celebrated across Jammu.

Several political and non-political organizations including Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association and Traders Unions on Friday celebrated 72nd Accession Day in different places across the district.On this day in 1947, then Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession and consequently the state of Jammu and Kashmir acceded to the dominion of India.

To celebrate the day, the senior leaders and activists including Women Wing folk of BhartiyaJanta Party (BJP) organized a function at the statue of PtPremNathDogra at DograChowk, Jewel and party headquarters at Trikuta Nagar  on Friday and celebrated ‘Accession Day’ with zest and gaiety. They further briefed gathering about the importance of the day when the state acceded to the dominion of India.

State President Ravinder Raina (MLA) prompted every resident of the state to celebrate the important day of “Vilay Divas” like Deepawali at their homes as well with full enthusiasm as on the day, despite all odds and difficult circumstances the MaharajHari Singh ji signed the “Instrument of Accession” enabling the strategically and geographically important state of Jammu and Kashmir to join the Union of India.

Similar, celebrations were also celebrated near the Statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi Bridge organized by the various non-political organizations wherein former PDP MLC Vikramaditya Singh who recently joined Congress party and former forest minister ChoudharyLal Singh were the chief guest and guest of honour on the occasion respectively.

Both the leaders enlightened the gathering about the historical importance of the accession of the State with the Union of India.

In Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Jammu, the lawyer fraternity under the leadership of its president Advocate B S Slathia celebrated 72nd ‘Accession Day’ as a national festival at Court Complex at Janipur, Jammu. The Association decorated various markets in the city, the road leading to the High Court and the Court Complex with Tri-Colour.

Slathia in his address stated that it was only in the domain of Maharaja to decide the accession issue. Slathia stated that as per the provision of Indian Independence Act 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh, had two options viz either to accede with India or to Pakistan but keeping in view diversity, integrity and dignity and the social fabrics of the state and also with a view of demographic areas and multi lingual, multi-religious residing in the State, the visionary ruler decided to accede to India. “Now we feel proud and realize how great visionary Maharaja was,” he added and said, “There is no dispute about the entity of Jammu & Kashmir vis-à-vis Union of India after signing of Instrument of Accession by the then Maharaja is full and final and irrevocable.”

Later, the Lawyer fraternity committed to counter any move against accession of the state with the dominion of India and also paid tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh.In another function of its kind, Public Opinion Forum (POF) organised a special function involving people from all walks of life to celebrate the 72nd Accession Day at Tawi Bridge under the shadow of Maharaja Hari Singh’s statute.

To celebrate the day,the POF cut 72 kilograms of ‘Ladoo’ and remembered the great Maharajas of Jammu and Kashmir with special focus of Maharaja Hari Singh and his contributions in making part of the Indian Union.
