AAC observes G M Bhat’s death anniversary

The eighth death anniversary of former general secretary of Awami Action Committee (AAC) Khawja Ghulam Muhammad Bhat was observed at the party headquarters, Mirwaiz Manzil, here today.
“Quran Khawani and special prayers were held for the deceased by the members of AAC. Senior party members, activists and workers were also present on the occasion. The incarcerated AAC patron and Hurriyat Conference (M)chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under illegal house detention, also paid rich tributes to late Bhat, describing him a great warrior who always worked for the party’s interests and for the people of Kashmir.
“Late Bhat throughout his life remained in the forefront of political activism and worked tirelessly for the party stand of achieving the right to self determination. His contribution can never be forgotten and all the party members would always remember him with great regard and respect,” the spokesman quoted Mirwaiz as having said, while addressing the participants over phone.
Others who also spoke on the occasion include Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Ghulam Qadir Beig, and the son of deceased Bhat, Muhammad Yousuf Bhat.
Meanwhile, the speakers strongly condemned the continuous house detention of Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, stating that “It is height of repression that Miwaiz is frequently barred to carry out his social, religious and political duties.”
