Approval to Triple-Talaq ordinance anti-Muslim: HCBA.

Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Srinagar, today termed the approval given by the union cabinet to an ordinance making “triple-talaq” a criminal offence as ‘anti-Muslim’ and also ‘repugnant’ to the safeguards enshrined in the international and domestic laws.

“It is bound to hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslims of India as well as of the state of Jammu and Kashmir who have been opposing the passing of such a law vociferously,” the Bar spokesman, in a statement today, said.

The Bar Association also ridicules the proposed setting up of mountain radar system and a helipad on 14 hectare of land in wildlife sanctuary in famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, which will have huge ecological and socio-economic impact and will destroy the pristine natural environment of Apharwat Mountain, which harbours a rich biodiversity, including critically endangered species,” the spokesman said.

“Bar appeals to the Hon’ble High Court, which is hearing a PIL titled Rafiq Ahmad Zargar v. State of J& K and in which it has already issued orders directing that no construction or any other kind of activity should be commenced in Gulmarg and direct the authorities concerned not to go ahead with the setting up of mountain radar system anda helipad,” the spokesman said.

Bar also strongly condemned the restrictions on Muharram processions on Wednesday in Srinagar. We strongly condemn the imposition of curfew like restriction in Srinagar city on 8th Muharram, Wednesday, and use of force against mourners by the police injuring many and arresting scores of them,” the Bar spokesman, in a statement today, said, terming it a “blatant violation of law and interference in the religious affairs of Muslim Community”.
