‘BJP knocked on doors of Farooq, Mufti for alliance’

Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at a public rally in Kathua that Abdullahs and Muftis have “ruined” three generations in Jammu and Kashmir, the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti questioned why the BharatiyaJanata Party was allying with political parties in the state if it was against “dynastic” rule.

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Mehbooba said: “It was BJP which, in 1999, knocked at the door of Farooq Abdullah and allotted his son Omar a junior ministry to propagate BJP’s ideology in J&K”

After the results of 2014 assembly elections were out, BJP point-man Ram Madhav made rounds of my father Mufti Sayeed’s residence for two months on the trot (sic). He assured him that Article 370 won’t be tinkered with, AFSPA will be revoked, footprints of security forces will be reduced, dialogue will be initiated with Hurriyat and Pakistan and power projects shall be returned to the state. It is only thereafter that Mufti sahib allied with the party”.

Alleging that BJP leaders were “mentally sick”, Mehbooba said: “This country is Mahatma Gandhi’s India and not NarendraModi’s or Amit Shah’s”.She was speaking to media-persons after addressing a gathering of workers in Kulgam rest house.

“Today, BJP leaders are spreading venom and hatred against the Muslims. But they should keep it in mind that this country has rich secular credentials and is proud of its Ganga-Jamuna culture. It is Gandhi’s India and not Modi’s or Amit Shah’s,” she said.

She also sought an apology from BJP president who has reportedly termed Bangladeshi Muslims as “termites who should be removed from the electoral rolls”.

“They (BJP) leaders have lost their mental balance and should get themselves treated by a good doctor,” Mehbooba alleged. She linked thin attendance of people in her public meetings in southern Kashmir to “bad security situation in the region”.

“Kulgam is my second home. But the situation is not conducive. Encounters and crackdowns are on. That’s the reason for this thin attendance,” she claimed.Meanwhile, Mehbooba Sunday asked the Prime Minister Modi why his BharatiyaJanata Party stitches alliances with political families if he and his party were against the “dynastic” rule.

“Why does PM bash political families pre elections and then sends his envoys to stitch alliances with the very same parties? NC in 99 and PDP in 2015. Why do they choose power over Article 370 then? BJP with its noxious agenda of banishing Muslims and minorities wants to divide India (sic),” Mehbooba wrote on her Twitter handle, hours after PM Modi said at a rally in Kathua that he won’t allow “dynastic parties to divide India”.
