Budgam villages switch to compost pits..

On the eve of Nowruz on Wednesday, 10 farmers who had completed the construction of the pits were felicitated and rewarded by the department of agriculture with an amount of Rs 16,000.
Officials from agriculture department Budgam said the farmers are encouraged to construct compost pits for dumping the waste extracted from their farmlands.
“Till now we have chosen 10 farmers and transferred amount online to their accounts because they have shown effective results by completely constructing compost pits for waste management,” said Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam Shabir Ahmad Alaqband. He said 45 more farmers will be felicitated and given money as well.
“We are doing our best to educate farmers and launching different schemes for them to save the environment,” he said.
