Hurriyat Conference (M) has denounced the government’s decision to cage Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence.
In a statement here a Hurriyat (M) spokesman said, “ Putting Mirwaiz under house arrest and not allowing him to attend a seminar on the plight of prisoners organised by Joint Resistance Leadership and also barring him from attending Awami Action Committee (AAC) meet at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal reflects the high handedness of the authorities.”
The spokesman said, “A huge contingent of forces and police was also deployed outside Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal to create an atmosphere of fear and to ensure that workers couldn’t assemble at the venue for participation in the meeting. Disallowing the participation of leadership in peaceful public meetings, seminars and gatherings is reflective of the iron fist policy of the government and clearly indicates that there is absolutely no space for any peaceful political activity in Kashmir.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his heartfelt condolences to JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik on the demise of his close relative, Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh of Maisuma, Mirwaiz prayed for peace to the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family members.
