DGP Dr S P Vaid on Friday said that police do not have the manpower to provide security to all ex-panchs and sarpanchs numbering around 40,000 across the state.
Vaid said it is not humanly possible to provide security to everyone seeking the same and denied the allegations that security has been withdrawn to members of a party on political dictations.
In reply to a question, Vaid said, “ADGP security is not a political man and police department does not take dictations from political parties in providing security to people who have threat perception. I may clarify it here that a committee constituted for the purpose looks into the threat perception on the basis of which decision to provide security to the applicants is taken.”
When asked whether he would review the policy for providing security to people demanding it in the aftermath of the killing of some political workers in different parts of Kashmir in recent days, the DGP said, “I don’t review the security policy but there is a multi-member committee which looks into the threat perception of the people demanding security and accordingly decisions are taken.
