Ceasefire announcement a hoax: Geelani

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today expressed deep concern over the government forces’ action in which they vandalized residential houses at Sugan village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district following landmine blast, terming the New Delhi’s recent announcement about ceasefire as a ‘hoax’.

“The government forces have waged a war on people. Their rhetoric about peace and ceasefire stay deflated.  The PDP’s role is very filthy and deceitful.  These people have let loose reign of terror in every  nook and corner of state,” Geelani said in a statement.

He said, “It is highly deplorable that even family members of Zeenat-ul-Islam were thrashed and their property ransacked. Chopping and damaging fruit trees testify our stand that the men in uniform are arrogant.”

“The forces barged into the houses, chopped of fruit trees, looted valuables. The recent announcement about ceasefire is mere hoax and just aimed to hoodwink opinion of international community. The recent action by the forces against civilians testifies our claim that despite tall claims about ceasefire the people are reeling under martial law like situations,” Geelani added.
