Police on Friday collected samples of cement from the slab which collapsed yesterday in Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district claiming the life of one person while injuring nine others.
The samples will be tested in the Forensic Science Lab (FSL) to check the quality of the material used.
Sources said when the slab collapsed the labourers who were busy working under it became the victims. After the incident, police took the cognisance of the matter. “We collected the samples of the cement for the FSL test to check the standard of the material, accordingly action will be taken,” a police official said.
The structure falls within the limits of Langate municipal committee. “The file seeking permission was pending for want of some documents,” said Abdul Ahad, executive officer municipal committee Langate. The building, he said, was being constructed without authorisation. “We had issued many notices to the builder to stop the work, but he did not respond,” the officer added.
Locals said the slab had been laid three weeks ago but collapsed yesterday after the labourers began to work under it in the ground floor.
