The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) organised cleanliness drive in various areas of Dal and Nigeen lakes.
In a statement, PRO LAWDA Malik Tariq said LAWDA has been undertaking awareness programmes for people and students to prevent to apprise people importance of the lake.
“On Eid-ul-Adha, it was, however, observed that the people living inside the lake as well as on its periphery dumped huge quantities of sheep skin, sheep heads, sheep intestines and other wastes in Dal and Nigeen Lakes including the backwater channels like Rainawari Channel, Nowpora Channel, Nallah Amir Khan, Brari Numbal Lagoon. This shows how callous people are towardse environment and health of the lake,” he said.
“LAWDA pressed its men and machinery into service and removed these wastes from the most of the areas of the lake. A few volunteers also joined the campaign and removed quintals of such wastes from the lake body. The general public is once again requested not to thrown garbage into the lake. It is our collective responsibility to save the lake for posterity and without public participation it is not possible,” Tariq added.
