DC reviews preparations for IDDR

DC, Ramesh Kumar today chaired a meeting to review the preparations of celebrating International Day for Disaster Reduction(IDDR), held annually on October 13,2017. The day will be celebrated at district as well as tehsil level so that people and communities raise awareness about the risks that they face. This includes disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.
DC stressed on a collaborative approach between different departments so that all resources are channelized properly to minimize loss of life and property. He directed holding mock drills and on spot visits to the areas which are vulnerable to landslides, earthquake and floods of the district for better preparedness. The district level program will be held at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Kathua and CEO Kathua was designated as the nodal officer to celebrate this day.
Disaster Management during ceasefire violation was also discussed extensively in the meeting. Evacuation of border dwellers and their livestock to safer places, minimizing damage to their property and crops besides rescue and rehabilitation measures during any exigency due to ceasefire violation were discussed threadbare.
He also said that Disaster Management entails a continuous and integrated process of planning, organising, coordinating and implementing measures, which are necessary for prevention, mitigation and reduction of risk of any disaster or its severity or consequences. It also involves capacity building, preparedness to deal with any disaster, prompt response to any disaster, assessing the severity of effects, evacuation, rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
