DDC Shopian reviews “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” Scheme

 District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz today called for coordinated and convergent efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination against the girl child in the District.
While chairing a meeting of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme, DDC Said that the Social Welfare, Health & Education departments besides Women’s Development Corporation, Legal Services Authorities, and other connected departments must collaborate with each other to ensure that objectives of the scheme are realized to the fullest.
DDC said that at the District level, linkages with Panchayats, Anganwadi Centres, and PHCs should be strengthened besides more and more camps; workshops should be organized for public and functionaries of different departments to sensitize and train them on the issue of Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and value of girl child & her education.
DDC stressed for the large-scale awareness programmes should be organized throughout the length and breadth of the district so as to have maximum impact. Further enough publicity material in form of brochures/handouts/posters/short audio & video clips and short videos for Whatsapp along with few edutainment films will be of great help. He further stressed that meritorious girls across different walks of life should be identified and should be felicitated to encourage them.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Parvaiz Sajad Ganai, said that in order make this initiative successful, the line departments have to work in coordination and as a team. Heath, education, rural department have to play an immense role in making this programme a grand success. He said that sex determination of the foetus is a major social evil and all those involved in such activities should be punished and directed the health officials to strictly implement PC&PNDT Act in the district in letter and spirit.
District Panchayat Officer Naseer Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Development Bashir Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Abdul Hamid and officers of line departments were present in this meeting.
