Senior Congress leader and former union minister Prof Saifuddin Soz has expressed shock over the killings in southern areas of Kashmir on Sunday and appealed the Government of India to declare ceasefire in the Valley and initiate decisive dialogue process.
“The killings and blood-letting at Shopian, the other day in which civilians were also killed, has left the entire Kashmir valley heart-broken and mauled. It’s a warning to the central government that the killings cannot go unabated like this,” Soz said in a statement.
He said, “The concerned citizens of India including a significant section of the army generals have since advised that GoI must show courage to reach the minds of Kashmiri youth and address the unrest there.”
“I strongly urge the Indian civil society to compel the GoI to declare a cease-fire and initiate a decisive dialogue process in Kashmir. An effective instrument for this process happens to be the leadership called the Hurriyat Conference,” he said.
He said, “An authority on solution to the conflicts in the world, Johan Galtung recently spoke to me from his home, the Port City, Alicante, Spain and explained that the dialogue is the only mechanism to find solution to the Kashmir dispute.”
“He was mercifully responding to my query as to what should be done to save Kashmir from blood-letting which had continued here through the draconian law like AFSPA,” he said.
“Galtung not an enemy of India, emphasized, look here, no solution will work except a public dialogue. He explained emphatically that the unrest in the minds of Kashmiri youth shall have to be addressed before the situation gets out of control,” Soz added.
