DSEK submits proposal for winter vacations in Kashmir schools.

In view of the falling temperatures in Kashmir, the parents have appealed to the government to announce winter vacation for the schools particularly up to primary classes.

The parents complained that morning fog and chill make it difficult for the students to reach their school.

My kids leave at 8:30 am as they have to reach their school 15 minutes before official timing. Their hands shiver with cold and they can’t breathe properly,” said Muhammad Maqbool, a parent from Chanpora. The school timing in schools within Srinagar Municipal limits is 10 am while outside Srinagar municipal limits it is 10:30 am.

“For past few days the climatic conditions are not good, yet the students are put to inconvenience as education department has not decided anything about vacation,” he said.

The parents said that more than ninety percent schools don’t have heating arrangement due to which the children face immense hardships while attending their classes.

“The department should consider the present climatic conditions and take a decision in the interest of the students. At least schools should close up to 6th class,” said Maryam, a parent from Soura.

Similar complaints were received from rural areas where parents demanded immediate winter vacation for primary classes.

“Going out in the morning is hazardous for the health of the kids. They leave for schools amid poor visibility which has huge risk factor as well,” said Bashsrat Ahmad, a parent from Baramulla.

Meanwhile, the directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has submitted a proposal to the government for announcement of winter vacations for government and recognised private schools. The proposal has been submitted on Wednesday amid the demand from parents for announcement of winter vacation for schools particularly primary classes.
