Friday prayers disallowed at Jamia Masjid

Friday prayers were once again disallowed at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid today as authorities feared trouble in the wake of separatists’ call for shutdown and protests after the prayers.

Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lashed out at the authorities for “caging the resistance leadership” and disallowing Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid.

“Once again no prayers allowed in barricaded and garrisoned downtown including at the #JamaMasjid, while all channels of communication remain blocked and leadership put under forced detention by the ‘republican state’,” tweeted Mirwaiz.

Separatist trio of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik had called for protests after Friday prayers against the civilian killings and use of indiscriminate force and demolition of property by forces.
