The Jammu and Kashmir government today announced a one day holiday on Jan 31, 2018 (Wednesday) in memory of Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHD, Leh who passed away on Jan 29.
In a notification issued here General Administration Department today said that the state mourning shall be observed for 3 days from Jan 30 and Feb 01.
“The national and state flags shall fly at half-mast during the state mourning on all buildings and places where these are flown regularly,” the notification said, adding, there shall be no official entertainment/function during the state mourning.
A shutdown was observed in Ladakh region today to mourn the death of Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC ) Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo.
71-year-old Dr Lonpo died of cardiac arrest yesterday.
The shutdown was called by the Ladakh Buddhist Association and all traders associations.
The district administration had requested the state government to declare tomorrow as mourning day as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
All the scheduled activities and programmes in entire region have either been postponed or cancelled as a mark of respect to Dr. Lonpo.
Several organisations also organised prayers at monasteries and temples.
A candle-light march was also organized in Leh town today evening as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
Meanwhile, Governor NN Vohra has expressed grief over the sudden passing away of Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
In a message, the Governor prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to his bereaved family to bear this loss.
