Hurriyat (G) condemns crackdown on pro-freedom leaders, activists ahead of HR Day.

Hurriyat Conference (G) today strongly condemned the crackdown on pro-freedom leaders and political activists ahead of international human rights day.

“These actions are an attempt by the authorities to stifle the voice of the Kashmiris, who are struggling against the continued forcible control and gross human rights violations in Kashmir,” a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said in a statement.

“These detentions of leaders and activists and other youths are aimed at preventing them from spearheading campaign during the ongoing human rights week in Kashmir to highlight human rights abuses being committed by the forces,” the spokesman said, adding that “To prevent public demonstrations and protests against the gross human rights violations inflicted on Kashmiris day in and day out by forces, the  prominent, pro-freedom leaders have been either detained in jails or placed under house detention.”

“Around the world, communities, groups and individuals every year observe and celebrate Human Rights Day and to promote the Universal declarations on Human Rights but in Kashmir this historical as usual day witnessed brazen violations of all international norms,” the spokesman said.
