Hurriyat (M) decries Mirwaiz’s house detention; barring Friday prayers at Jamia.

Hurriyat Conference (M) Friday strongly condemned the authorities’ decision of placing the chairman of amalgam Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention, imposing curbs in downtown Srinagar and disallowing the congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid and termed it as an open aggression.

In a statement issued here, the Hurriyat said the repressive tactics amount to muzzling the genuine voices through military might. “Today, it was ninth Friday this year devotees were not allowed to offer Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid,” the statement said.

It said, “Hurriyat condemns the repressive measures taken by the present dispensation. All the basic principles of democracy are being throwing out to wind as people’s religious, social and political rights are crushed under the military might.”

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman strongly condemned the shifting of Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi and two of her close aides Fahmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen to New Delhi after being summoned by the NIA sleuths on the pretext of questioning. “These measures are mere political vendetta against the leadership. Such pressure tactics have failed in the past and are destined to fail In future as well,” he added.

“We also strongly condemned the house detention of Syed Ali Geelani and arresting JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and conducting raids at the houses of scores of leaders, activists and youth across Kashmir,” he added.
