Hurriyat Conference (M) today lashed out at the authorities for placing its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under continued house detention, thereby barring him from carrying out social, religious and political responsibilities.
“Caging the leaders in their homes is nothing new but of late such moves have gained speed to restrict the movement of pro-freedom leadership and to disallow them from raising voice against the unabated rights abuses being committed by the lakhs of forces in Kashmir,” a Hurriyat (M) spokesman said in a statement.
He said, “By resorting to ultimate repressive measures the authorities want to create a graveyard like silence in Kashmir by crushing every single voice raised against the oppression.”
“Owing to the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a crucial review meeting of Darul-Khair Mirwaiz Manzil could not materialize. Darul-Khair is a charity organization, meant for helping poor, needy and destitute. A crucial meeting of members of Dar-ul-Khair was scheduled to be held at Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen, but the police didn’t allow the meeting to take place which is highly deplorable,” the spokesman said.
“The Hurriyat also condemns the crackdown on entire resistance camp,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the spokesman strongly condemned the arrest of senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza who was proceeding towards Kulgam to express solidarity with the families of slain youth in connection with the Human Rights Week.
