Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA) today strongly denounced the strike called by the Jammu Bar Association, terming it as an attempt to disrupt the free and fair trial of the accused who kidnapped, raped and murdered an eight year old girl.
“The people who believe in justice and fair play should have supported the investigation and trial of the case on a fast track basis so that those who have committed this heinous crime are dealt with under law,” the Bar said. “It is unfortunate that some of the members of the Jammu Bar Association, who apparently believe in rule of law and plead every day the cases of those who are denied justice have joined hands and raised an unreasonable demand of handing over the case to the CBI.”The Kashmir Bar said its Jammu counterpart has already exposed its biases in the investigation of the Srinagar sex scandal and Shopian rape and murder cases. “Instead of bringing the culprits to book, they have left no stone unturned to hush up the two cases,” the HCBA statement said.
The Kashmir Bar also slammed “the unjustified and unwarranted” stand of Jammu bar on Rohingya Muslims. “The Bar Association also feels that Rohingya Muslims are in Jammu only because they have been driven out of their homes and hearth by brute state forces and once the conditions for their return would be conducive, they shall return to their native country,” the statement said. “The Rohingya stay in Jammu is temporary and it should not be politicized at this stage. Moreover, the Indian Supreme Court has also stayed their deportation and the matter is thus sub –judice”.
