JU holds lecture on ‘Communal Harmony’.

To commemorate Communal Harmony Campaign Week, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu (JU), today organized an awareness lecture on the topic “Communal Harmony” for the students and scholars at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium Complex.

Prof. Jigar Mohammad, Dean, Research Studies, University of Jammu, was the keynote speaker.

In his welcome address, Prof. Shailender Singh elaborated on the relevance of the topic with historical as well as contemporary anecdotes.Prof. Jigar Mohammad presented a detailed journey from ancient to modern India with reference to the cultural and communal harmony.

He said that Indian society and culture are instinctively inclusive and thus anything which nurtures the feeling of exclusiveness and bitterness is hazardous for its very texture. A participative interaction session was also held in which students, scholars and even teachers raised queries and got satisfactory remarks by the panel.

This was also asserted in the interaction that when we speak about communal harmony, the word harmony needs to be emphasized more than the word communal.The session was attended by members of Campus Cultural Committee, Students Cultural Council, students and scholars of the University of Jammu.

It was conducted by Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor). Hall management was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.

Those who were present at the dais included Prof. Shailender Singh Jamwal (Dean Students Welfare), Dr. BK Bajaj (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Anil Gupta, Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Deans SW) and Dr. Vinay Thusoo ,Public Relations Officer ( SW).
