Jumat-ul-Vida worshippers pray for free Palestine.

Jumat-ul-Vida, the last and the holiest Friday of Ramadhan, was observed in the Valley, and worshippers prayed for free Palestine. Pro-Palestine  and pro-freedom rallies were held at a few places in Srinagar, Budgam and Kargil.

Friday congregations in mosques spilled onto roads. The largest congregation was witnessed at Jamia Masjid followed by Dargah Hazratbal, which houses the holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). People had come to Jamia Masjid from various parts of the Valley.

“This masjid is our spiritual centre and since it is the biggest gathering I hope Allah would answer our prayers,” said Ali Muhammad, who had come from Kupwara.

Many worshippers broke down during the sermon, delivered by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and prayers at Jamia Masjid.

Eyes went moist at Dargah when the imam said, “We don’t know who among us will witness next Ramadhan. May Allah give us opportunity to witness another Ramadhan and bless us again with His mercy.”

This Jumat-ul-Vida was also observed as Youm-e-Quds and Yoom-e-Kashmir in the state in solidarity with the people of Palestine and Kashmir.

Imams prayed for “freedom” of Kashmir and Palestine. A demonstration was held against Israeli occupation of Palestine and Bait-ul Muqqadas.
