The resolution framed by the Mutahida Masjlis-e-Ulema that condemned the NIA summon to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was passed in masjids and shrines across Kashmir on Friday.
In a statement here a MMU spokesman said that the resolution passed before the Friday congregation read that the gathering expresses solidarity with Mirwaiz and assures him that we stand by him at this time when he is being “harassed and victimized” by the authorities and would stay shoulder to shoulder with him. “The gathering strongly denounced the NIA notice to Mirwaiz and summoning him to Delhi for questioning for no reason and termed it as assault on religious affairs of Muslims making it clear that Mirwaiz is not just a political leader whose views are for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue, but the religious head of people of Kashmir and any attempt to harass him will be strongly opposed as it will deeply hurt the sentiments and feelings of people across the state,” the resolution reads.
The resolution reads that the congregation strongly condemns the imposition of ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, and arrest of its leaders and cadres and called it a blatant interference in religious affairs meeting also condemned the crackdown on the resistance leadership, killings, and harassment of people.
The congregation condemns in strongest words the frequent sealing of Kashmir’s grand Masjid Jamia Masjid which is the religious and spiritual epicentre of the lakhs of people of the state and termed the barring of Friday prayers as highly intolerable stating that the move amounts to direct religious interference.
