A Kashmiri student who was attacked earlier this month at Sharda University in Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh has gone missing. His family back home in Srinagar is in panic.
Ahtisham Bilal, a first-year student of Medical Imaging Technology at Sharda University was allegedly beaten up by a group of students following a clash between Afghan and Indian students in the first week of October.
His family members told that Ahtisham has not contacted them since Sunday.”Ahtisham called me on Sunday at around 10:30 am and told me that he will go to Delhi from Noida. In the evening, Ahtisham told me he is on way back to the university hostel,” said Bilal Ahmad Sofi, his father.
Ahtisham is a resident of Khanyar in old Srinagar city.
His father said that Ahtisham had also informed his cousin, who is also enrolled at Sharda University that he will reach the university hostel by 8pm. “But he didn’t reach the hostel and created panic in whole family,” said his father.Bilal said the local police in Delhi has claimed that the last location of Ahtisham was traced in Jammu.
“We have registered a missing report with the police station in Delhi. The local SHO told me that the last location of Ahtisham was traced to Jammu. Now we don’t know about his exact location,” he said, adding that the University authorities have also started searching for his son.
He said the Ahtisham didn’t move out of University from the day he was beaten by the students in the campus. “We don’t know where he is gone. We all are worried about him,” he said. Meanwhile former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti late evening appealed union home minister Rajnath Singh to direct authorities to track the missing Kashmiri student at the earliest. Taking to social networking site Twitter, Mehbooba wrote: “Cause of grave concern that Ehtishaam Bilal, a student at Sharda University who was assaulted is reportedly missing. Request @rajnathsingh ji to take note of it and direct the authorities to track him at the earliest.”
