The Crime Branch(CB) may have arrested all accused, in the heinous gangrape and murder of a minor girl of the Bakarwal nomadic tribe in Kathua, but the case that gripped the nation continues to be a mystery with several speculative theories floating around the case.
The charge sheet filed by Crime Branch has many uncertainties. According to the charge sheet filed by CB revealed that an 8-year-old girl was sedated, raped repeatedly, and then bludgeoned to death in January this year.
Sanji Ram, the caretaker of the ‘devisthan’ in a village in Kathua, is listed as the main conspirator behind the crime. He was allegedly joined by special police officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma, friend Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, Ram’s nephew, a juvenile, and his son Vishal Jangotra alias “Shamma”. A separate charge sheet was filed against the juvenile.
Sanji Ram the main accused demanded a CBI probe and a narco test. The very first of its kind when a culprit himself demanded a narco test, as narco test has the capability to rule out the fake confessions. If Sanji Ram is the main culprit then why a culprit himself demanded a narco test.
The police officers who were arrested for destroying evidence moved to high court seeking a CBI probe. Sub-Inspector Anand Dutta and Special Police Officer (SPO) Deepak Khajuria were arrested for allegedly destroying evidence related to the rape and killing of 8-year-old in the state’s Kathua district.
The petitioners pleaded that the crime branch probe is quashed as it had been shifted on three occasions from the local police to it, and finally to a Special Investigation Team (SIT). According to the petition filed, the investigating police officer despite being involved in rape-murder case and evaded his arrest was appointed by (SIT).
The officer’s subsequent acquittal in a trial court for lack of evidence is a matter of record, it said. Despite the sensitivity of the case, he is a member of the probe panel, the petitioners said, while pleading for a fresh CBI probe in the case.
According to the charge sheet filed son of Sanji Ram, Vishal Jangotra was present on the date of commission of a crime. But the attendance records of Vishal Jangotra show that he appeared for exams on Jan 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 & 17, the period during which Asifa was missing. How can he be present in Kathua & Meerut at the same time?
The probe panel found the hair victim in devisthan months after the rape occurred. If Devisthan is washed three times a day including the room in which the girl was allegedly kept, how is it possible for the investigating agencies to collect a strand of hair after months.
Moreover, if all the accused, the local public including the BJP leaders demanded a CBI probe, then why the authorities turn a blind eye towards the CBI probe.
