Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday condemned the killing of a Sikh youth at Tral in Pulwama district.
“Killing Simranjeet Singh is reprehensible in every way and the aim of such incidents is to disturb communal harmony here,” the leaders said in a statement.
On January 4, Simranjeet Singh was critically wounded when unknown gunmen fired upon him. He later died at SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
“The Sikh community of Kashmir has always stood with the majority community in the resistance movement despite attempts were made by agencies to give it a sectarian angle,” the leaders said.“Even after the massacre of Sikhs in Chhattisinghpora, the people of this community showed far-sightedness and patience to defeat the communal forces,” they said.
The leaders said that protection of minorities, Sikhs, Hindus, or Buddhists was a political and moral responsibility of the people of Kashmir. “Our religion teaches us to protect minorities,” the JRL said, adding a delegation of leaders would visit family of the slain Sikh youth in Tral to extend solidarity with the bereaved family.
