With holiday on Saturday and Sunday, the election authority is gearing up to meet the last minute rush for filing nominations for the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat on Monday, as major political parties, including Congress, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party are yet to submit their papers.
“Nominations would be received by returning officer at DC officer complex, Jammu and all arrangements have been put in place for handling any number of applications on the last day,” an official said.
The process for filing nominations began on March 18. As of now, four candidates, including BJP’s Jugal Kishor Sharma and Independent People’s Party’s Sayed Aqib Shah have filed nominations from political parties, while Subash Chander and refugee leader Rajiv Chuni have also submitted their nomination as independent candidates.
As per a notification, scrutiny of papers would be conducted on March 26 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is March 28 up to 3.00 pm. The polling on seat will be held on April 11.
