Patient care was badly hit in Kashmir hospitals on Monday due to a strike called by the doctors.
Doctors engaged with the directorate of health services Kashmir (DHSK) have called the strike to press for various demands, including the removal of pay anomaly.Out-patient departments (OPDs) across the hospitals in the Valley, functioning under DHSK, were shut down by the doctors Monday morning, triggering chaos.
Long queues were seen outside the emergencies of district and sub-district hospitals, which had been kept functional by the hospital administrators.
At JLNM hospital in Srinagar, which runs many specialty clinics, pandemonium was witnessed as patients found OPD rooms closed. A huge rush of patients was seen outside the emergency rooms of the hospitals, an eye witness said.
Doctors across Kashmir are on strike today demanding removal of pay anomaly in addition to various other demands.
The decision to stop work on gazetted holidays had been taken a few days back. The doctors are demanding risk allowance and wages for the extra duties they put in.
