Police on Monday filed charge-sheet against Lashkar militants including a non-Muslim resident of Uttar Pradesh, in the case of killings of six policemen including an SHO in Achabal of south Kashmir last year.
“An SIT (special investigation team) was formed which filed a comprehensive charge-sheet against the accused before a Sessions Court in Anantnag,” a police official said.
Achabal SHO Feroz Ahmad Dar and five others were killed in the attack on June 15, 2017.
The police official said that during the investigation of the case, it was established that the Pakistan-based Lashkar- e-Taiba (LeT) militants, headed by Bashir Lashkari, were involved in the attack.
Lashkari was killed along with another accused Abu Maz in an encounter with government forces in Branti Batpora of Anantnag district of south Kashmir on July 01 last year, the official said.
“On the basis of evidences collected during the course of investigation, complicity of eight people was established,” the official said.
The accused were identified as Sandeep Kumar, son of Ramesh Kumar of Muzaffer Nagar (UP);, Mohammad Ashraf Wani alias Molvi, son of Ghulam Nabi Wani of Branti Anantnag; Bashir Ahmad Wani alias Bashir Lashkari, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Soat Shall Kokernag; Abu Maz of Pakistan; Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad of Branti Dialgam; Mehraj-ud-din Bangroo alias Asif, son of Sonaullah of Narparastan Fatehkadal Srinagar; Sahir Ahmad Makroo, son of Mohammad Akram of Arwani Bijbhera; and Zeenat-ul-Islam alias Zeenshah alias Alkama, son of Ghulam Hassan of Malnard Sugan, Shopian.
“On the basis of evidence collected during the course of investigation, complicity of the accused persons was established, of whom two – Sandeep Kumar and Mohammad Ashraf Wani – were arrested in the instant case,” the official said, adding that the other four were on the run.
The charge-sheet has been filed against the absconding accused as well.
