Noted pulmonologist of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Prof Parvaiz A Kaul was on Friday awarded the prestigious Dr OA Sarma oration award at National Pulmonary Conference in Ahmedabad.
Dr OA Sarma Oration award was instituted in 2001 by the Indian Chest Society for excellence in the field of pulmonology and is one of the most prestigious awards in the field.
This year, Prof Kaul was presented with the award at the National Pulmonology Conference (NAPCON) held at Ahmedabad in recognition of his immense and excellent contribution in the field of tuberculosis pulmonary medicine.
On the occasion, Prof Kaul delivered oration on ‘Influenza for Indian Pulmonologists’. He impressed upon the need for pro-activity in tacking the impending threat of influenza pandemic.“Influenza surveillance needs to continue and infection control measures need to be practiced without fail,” he said.
He said there was a looming threat of influenza and pulmonologists need to be more proactive about using influenza vaccination for themselves and their patients. Prof Kaul’s contribution to the medical research was appreciated by the organizers.Prof Kaul is head of internal and pulmonary medicine at SKIMS.
