The residents of Qalamabad village of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district blocked Handwara-Nowgam road on Friday to protest against shortage of portable water in their area.
The protesters said the area is without water supply from weeks now and due to the negligence of field staff they were forced to hit the roads.
An angry protester Tariq Ahmad said, “We have been living without water facility. We have apprised the authorities about the issue several times but they have failed to do anything on ground,” he said.Protesters of the village particularly women and children in dozens hit the roads and shouted slogans against PHE department for failing to provide them regular water supply. The traffic movement was halted for hours in the area.
