Refresher course for teachers commences at JU.

A three-week UGC refresher course in English for the teachers of university and colleges, being organized by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Jammu in collaboration with the department of English of the University, commenced, here on Wednesday.

The course was formally inaugurated by Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma highlighted the importance of various languages and their usage in the present time. He further complimented the HRDC and the Department of English for organizing the course in English.

Prof J P Singh Joorel, Director HRDC, in his address, said that in addition to the professional requirement, this course shall also be helpful for the enhancement of the skills of the teachers and their intellectual development.Prof Bhim S Dhaiya, formerly Vice Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, the chief guest on the occasion, while speaking in the inaugural function, emphasized the contribution of diverse languages in enriching literature. He also underscored the duties and responsibilities of teachers to update themselves in their areas of specialization.

Earlier, Prof Monika Sethi, the Head, Department of English and the course coordinator,  while welcoming the participants spelt in detail the various areas of study as well as the themes that would be covered during the three-week long Refresher Course. Around 30 Assistant Professors from various universities and colleges across India are participating in the Refresher Course.

Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director HRDC, JU, while highlighting the utility of such courses, proposed the formal vote of thanks on the  occasion.Prominent among those who attended the inaugural function, included Prof Satnam Kour, Prof Sucheta Pathania, Prof Parvinder Kour, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Dr Sadaf Shah, Dr Garima Gupta, Pardeep Kumar and other faculty members from various departments of the University of Jammu.
