Resentment in J&K Congress over Karra’s nomination to CWC.

Resentment is brewing in Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) over the nomination of former MP Tariq Hameed Karra as member of its highest decision making body as “the seniors have been left.”

Karra, who was formerly associated with the People’s Democratic Party, has been nominated as the permanent invitee to CWC, making him first ever Congress leader from Kashmir and second in Jammu and Kashmir state after Ghulam Nabi Azad, to make it to the prestigious decision making body of the Congress.

Insiders in the Congress party said that “senior party leaders have been left and the most junior” has been picked up.

“There are leaders in the Congress who have affiliation with the party for four decades,” a senior Congress leader told Greater Kashmir on the condition of anonymity. “They have given their life to the Congress.”

He said that most of the Congress leaders from the Valley and Jammu were “disappointed” with the decision of Rahul Gandhi and resentment has been communicated to party higher ups.

“Karra is in the Congress for past some months and he has no idea of the party,” he said.

Karra had joined Congress party in February last year after leaving PDP.

“Congress high command should have taken the ground realities into consideration before taking such a decision,” another senior Congress leader said adding that it will have “negative impact” on the Congress in the state.

“Almost all leaders see it as an attempt to undermine the sacrifices of those who have been loyal to the party for decades.”

Insiders in the Congress told Greater Kashmir that Karra since his joining the party, wanted to be Congress president J&K. “The state Congress unit has already started to divide and this decision will create further wedge.”

“This nomination of Karra has made the situation more complex,” they said.
