National Conference chief spokesperson and MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday called on the union minister for roads, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi and submitted a detailed project proposal for four-laning of the Humhama-Budgam road, a NC spokesman said.
He said that Aga Ruhullah sought the four-laning of the road so that the access to Budgam district could be enhanced in order to promote better prospects for trade and tourism which would in turn create more local jobs in the area.
“I met the Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways and sought the four-laning of the Humhama-Budgam road and submitted a project detailing the proposal. Budgam District has a huge tourism potential that is largely untapped and a better road access from Humhama would not only improve the tourism prospects but also connect Budgam to Srinagar in a better and more efficient way thereby increasing trade efficiency and boosting the economy of both the Districts,” the NC spokesman quoted Ruhullah as having said.
The union minister assured Ruhullah that the project would be taken up under the central road fund at the earliest possible instance.
