SAC clears honorarium for sarpanchs, panchs.

Sarpanchs and panchs, who will be elected in the coming panchayat polls, will be paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 2500 and panchs Rs 1000 respectively, the State Administrative Council announced on Wednesday.

“To compensate sarpanchs and panchs for the onerous responsibilities to be discharged by them under the new Panchayati Raj System being put in place in the state, the SAC decided to pay them honorarium as a token of encouragement,” an official spokesman said in a statement.

The SAC meet, which was chaired by Governor SP Malik, “hoped” that the honorarium would “infuse enthusiasm among the elected panchayat members”.Panchayat polls, which begin November 17, will be conducted in nine phases.

MUNICIPAL LAWS (AMENDMENT) BILL 2018 APPROVED, TO PAVE WAY FOR MAYOR’S ELECTION THROUGH SECRET BALLOT

The SAC also approved the Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2018, paving way for election of mayors and deputy mayors of municipal corporations and presidents and vice-presidents of municipal councils and committees through secret ballot.

The decision, in this regard, has been taken in order to remove the anomalies between the provisions of the Municipal Acts, after their amendments through the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Laws (Amendment) Act, 2010 and relevant Regulations/Bye-laws framed in the year 2005 under the original Act of 2000, the statement said.
