Slain LeT militants could have inflicted major losses: Police

Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said that five militants killed in a 48-hour gunfight in Hamatpora forests here were members of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit.
Addressing a news conference in this frontier town senior superintendent of police Shamsher Hussain said that a search operation launched in the forest area has been winded up.
Documents like identity proofs, matrix sheets and global positioning systems recovered from the possession of the slain militants confirmed that they were affiliated with LeT. During searches, forces recovered a war like store, medicines and eatables from the gun battle site,” the SSP said.
Terming the killing of militants as a “major success,” the district police chief said it was one of the challenging operations for the forces as the gun battle took place at a strategically difficult terrain with thick vegetation all around.
“The militants could have inflicted major losses on the forces’ had they not been trapped on time,” he added.
