We are not into govt formation with PDP: Congress.

Amid speculations of PDP and Congress forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir, State Congress unit said that it is not into such process and if PDP wants they can approach Congress leadership in New Delhi.
“We are not in the process of government formation (with PDP). Rest, it is up to high command in New Delhi. There are speculations (of PDP-Congress alliance) but I am not aware of such development at the higher level,” Congress Chief Spokesman Ravinder Sharma said.
The speculations are rife after BJP pulled out of the alliance with PDP on July 19 and forcing imposition of governor rule.
With assembly in suspension, option of government formation has been kept open.
Speculations of BJP attempting at horse-trading PDP and NC legislators to cobble up support galored after BJP Kashmir point man Ram Madhav stayed in Kashmir for two days last week and met Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone along with other BJP leaders.
However, Madhav later said that BJP wasn’t in government formation with any party in the state.
PDP has not yet ruled out new government formation with either BJP or Congress. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has been in New Delhi from Friday setting speculations rife that she might seek Congress support to form the government and save her party from splitting up.
Her brother Tasaduq Mufti has also been meeting with legislators at Fairview Gupkar. But party leaders and legislators said that the meetings with Tasaduq are restricted to party matters only.
Meanwhile, Congress JK president G A Mir is also in New Delhi and Congress leaders said that he is there for “organizational” matters of the party.
Immediately after BJP withdrew its support to PDP, Congress’s senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it will not from provide support to PDP.
Sharma said that is the stand which he knew.
“Thereafter, if there is any such development that is for the top leadership to decide,” Sharma said.
PDP (28) and Congress (12) have 40 seats in the assembly and with four independent MLAs, Hakim Yaseen, M Y Tarigami, Er Rasheed and Pawan Gupta, their number add up to 44, the simple majority figure to form the government.
“We have arithmetic numbers to form government, but political decisions have to be taken up by high command,” Sharma added.
A senior Congress leader in the Valley said that if PDP wants to save its party from splitting then its leadership should approach Congress high command for government formation.
“BJP is trying arm twisting methods. It may split PDP as it tried three years ago after Mufti Sahabs death when Mehbooba Mufti was reluctant to form government with it,” the Congress leader said.
“Also BJP should be kept away from Jammu and Kashmir government as it will break away the state with its divisive politics. So, only NC, Congress and PDP can do that. Since NC and PDP cannot go together, PDP has the only option of Congress available at this time,” he said.
Congress is also holding its meeting in Kashmir on July 3 which will be attended by Azad, Ambika Soni and all other party leaders of the state.
