The opposition National Conference MLA from Kangan Mial Altaf Ahmad here on Friday raised the issue of killing of a woman on LoC in Poonch district and demanded a statement on the measures government is taking to restore peace and calm in border areas.
He also sought government response on the measures for rehabilitating the families whose nears and dears are either killed or injured in the cross-LoC shelling incidents.
As none of the ministers present in the House stood up to respond to the demand of Mian Altaf, other opposition members created an uproar forcing the government to make a statement.
Later, Minister for Revenue, Hajj and Auqaf and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri informed that one civilian has been killed while three army personnel were injured in Pakistani firing in Mankote sector in district Poonch during past 24 hours.
Veeri informed that on Thursday at about 1620 hours, Pakistani Army started “indiscriminate firing” in Mankote sector manned by Indian Army’s 22 Sikh Regiment which was retaliated.
He said during the firing, one Zainab Bee (45), wife of Mohammad Nazir Gujjar of Nar Balnai was killed while three Army personnel — Havaldar Lakhvinder Singh, Havaldar Balvir Singh and Lance Naik Charandeep Singh got injured.
He said firing was also reported from Gulpur and Balakote sectors on Thursday, however, no loss of life and property was reported in these incidents.
The Minister said that District administration Poonch is taking all possible measures to avoid loss of life and property; alternate arrangements are also in place for boarding and lodging of the effected population.
